The trackpad gap is real and the house isn't going to pretend otherwise — it is the one piece of hardware where Apple has an unarguable lead, and it has held that lead for over a decade.

The unibody has been copied for fifteen years and still isn't matched at the median. Machined aluminium, no flex in the deck, hinges that hold their angle, and a chassis you can pick up by one corner without it creaking.
The trackpad is the real argument. Haptic click anywhere on the surface, gesture handling built into the OS rather than bolted on by a driver, and palm rejection that genuinely works. It is the part of the machine you touch every minute, and nothing on the other side has caught it.
Consistency is the underrated half. The cheapest Air and the dearest Pro ship the same keyboard, the same trackpad and the same class of speakers. There is no bad Mac to accidentally buy.
WinThe case for Windows
Choice is the entire case, and it's a strong one. Convertibles, 360-degree hinges, OLED panels, 240Hz gaming screens, detachable tablets, 17-inch desktop replacements, machines with a pen in the chassis. Apple sells none of these, at any price.
The best Windows laptops are not compromises. A ThinkPad X1 Carbon, an XPS, a Surface Laptop — these match Apple on materials and beat it on ports and serviceability.
And there is a floor Apple doesn't offer: a perfectly usable metal-bodied laptop for well under what the cheapest Mac costs.
Who should actually care

Are MacBooks actually better built than Windows laptops?
At the median, yes — the cheapest Mac is built like the dearest one. At the top of the range the gap closes entirely: a ThinkPad X1 or an XPS is every bit as well made.
Why is the MacBook trackpad considered better?
Three things stack: haptic feedback so the whole surface clicks, gesture handling built into macOS rather than added by a third-party driver, and palm rejection tuned to that exact hardware. Windows Precision drivers closed part of the gap but not the haptics.
Can I get a MacBook with a touchscreen?
No. Apple has never shipped a touchscreen Mac and shows no sign of starting. If you want to touch or draw on the screen, that decision makes itself.
