“Macs just work”

Verdict: Mostly true

For the common path, genuinely yes. The cost is that when you want off that path, there often isn't one.

Within Apple's intended use the claim holds. Hardware and software are built together, sleep and wake are reliable, updates rarely break drivers, and there is exactly one configuration to support.

The trade is control. No touchscreen, no upgrades after purchase, limited window management until recently, and no supported way to change the parts of the system Apple has already decided.

Windows makes the opposite trade: far more ways to configure it, far more ways to break it, and a much larger surface for a driver to misbehave on.

Conceded, with the price tag attached. It just works and you may not change how it works are the same sentence read from opposite ends.
