What catches people out
Off until you turn on Accessibility → Zoom → “Use keyboard shortcuts to zoom”; after that ⌥⌘8 toggles it and ⌥⌘- zooms back out. On Windows it's the Windows key with the +/= key, and Win+Esc closes Magnifier.
